Field Notes

Description:

Common name of this species is derived from the bold markings on the underside hindwings, which resemble the letters "BD".

Habitat:

tropical rainforest, amazon

Notes:

I spotted this just outside the hostel near Mocoa. It's about 2km from the small town and surrounded by forest. It was totally unexpected and a great way to start the day as I was just on my way out for a hike. I may be taking a chance on the ID but I'm pretty sure it is the BD butterfly.

Thanks everyone for the comments on this beauty. You're right Landmark Expert, it does look more like a dB, or a 08 to me.
