Field Notes

Description:

Smooth white spongy marshmallow-like fungi growing on tree roots sticking out of ground. Light gray edges. Some burnt orange coloration or "bruising"?

Habitat:

Old suburban un-maintained yard.

Notes:

Growing in several patches attached to exposed tree roots, most likely maple roots. Possibly magnolia. They haven't been here long.
