Field Notes

Description:

A very striking Sphinx moth with bright orange and brown. It had a silver bird-like marking on each upper wing that reflected even small amounts of light (last picture). Male, 3 cm long. Family: Sphingidae, Subfamily: Macroglossinae.

Habitat:

Came to the parking lights of a shopping mall, San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.

Notes:

It had been hurt by a car on the tip of it's abdomen.
