Field Notes

Description:

Female - 1.5 to 2 inches long with stout body and short tail. The female whom I photographed was pregnant.
Male - 0.5 to 1 inches long with thinner body and often long tail. More colorful than female. The male who I photographed has wild type coloration. Both male and female guppies vary in color and mainly males are bred selectively for colors, patterns and tail length and shape.

Habitat:

In the wild, guppies live in streams and rivers throughout South and Central America. Mine live in a ten gallon planted aquarium.
