Fruto del mangle rojo. Al desprenderse caen al agua donde flotan verticalmente, hasta que llegan a tierra firme y puedan germinar.

Esta especie es altamente utilizada para carbon. Se considera una de las especies mas valiosa en captura de carbono. Tiene una enorme tolerancia a ambientes anoxicos y anaerobicos. Además de soportar alta cantidad de sal. Pueden liberar la sal por medio de sus hojas. Y tienen un sistema para respirar a través de raices externas.
