Field Notes

Description:

More commonly known as Sharp-snouted rock lizard, (formerly Lacerta oxycephala), this is a small, slender bodied and flattened lizard with a pointed snout and somewhat bulgy eyes. It measured less than 20 cm, with some 7 to 8 cm in body length. The color of the body is grayish, with brown-red pattern; and the tail is grayish-green, striped black.

Habitat:

Endemic to Adriatic coast, in particular Dalmatia, the representatives of this species are found in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Montenegro, and possibly Albania, where its natural habitats are Mediterranean-type shrubby vegetation, rocky areas, rocky shores, rural gardens, and urban areas. This fella was seen on rocks surrounding our garden, not too far away from Old Town of Dubrovnik, on slopes of Srdj, a mountain dominating Dubrovnik.
