Field Notes

Description:

Large white Moth with rows of spots on the upper wings. The front pair of legs are very hairy and when at rest, it usually has these legs stretched out in front of the head as in the third picture. About 2 cm long. Family Lasiocampidae.

Habitat:

Came to an ultraviolet light in the garden, San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.

Notes:

The last 3 pictures are of a different individual found in the same place on May 14, 2014.

Artace sp., maybe A. cribrarius, but I am not sure, there are many undescribed species.
