Description:
It was brought to Brazil in slave ships to serve as pet bird, during the reign of King Peter I. Having escaped from the cages, initially in Rio de Janeiro, spread over various regions. Lives in flocks of about six individuals.
Habitat:
Was introduced in Brazil by the Portuguese sailors of merchant ships route from India crossing the Atlantic. Loose, these birds proliferated abundantly and today are found in flocks in the grasslands of South, Southeast and Center-West Brazil. I found this specimen in a region of transition between the Cerrado and Atlantic Forest.
Notes:
It make nests in thickets, in form spherical or oval, with thick walls made of grass, chicken feathers and cotton, accessible by a narrow tube.
