Common Whitetail Skimmer

This dragonfly usually hovers over standing or slow water. Females release their eggs into the water, near the shore, but dipping their abdomen under water several times.

Males have a white abdomen and use it to defend territory by flashing it at approaching males. Females have a brown abdomen.

They are active from spring through autumn.
