A slim and soft bodied insect with long filiform antennae and similarly long cerci.

Habitat:

Yes, it was near a river.

Notes:

Stoneflies are an ancient and primitive order of insects sharing an aquatic larval stage with mayflies, dragonflies and others.

Yes, a bizarre creature. You can also tell the larvae by their two cerci. I must look in the creeks sometime for these.
