Field Notes

Description:

It is a perennial evergreen tree with leathery leaves that remain throughout the year. It can reach 15 meters high, shows almost no aerial roots unlike other species of ficus. The bark has a light greyish tone and smooth surface.

Exudates : Latex white, profuse.

Habitat:

Habit : Trees up to 25 m tall, aerial roots numerous, arising in tufts from the stout branches.

Distribution :India to Indo-China and Sri Lanka; in the Western_Ghats- South, Central and Maharashtra Sahyadris.

Notes:

This tree with beautiful leaves was on the roadside near the forest living on another tree.
