Field Notes

Description:

Bird with glossy black plumage and a patch on skin on the "cheek". Webbed feet. As far as I could see...black eyes.

Habitat:

There was an entire flock sitting on the trees near a busy intersection. The birds are known to be gregarious. They happily shared space with Black-crowned Night Heron, Nycticorax nycticorax and the House crow Corvus splendens.

Notes:

There used to be many more of these nesting birds but some trees have been chopped down and others have had their branches cut off. The guys who run a taxi stand at the intersection also agreed that destruction of habitat is leading to a drop in avian population. At least some awareness is dawning!
