Description:

Almost a month after the first bloom was seen and recorded in a previous spotting (http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/19182044), backyard was more alive with more of this fragrant and beautiful dendrobium.

Dendrobium anosmum Lindley 1845, of family Orchidaceae, called Purple Rain, Sanggumay (in Tagalog), is an epiphytic growing orchid, native to Thailand (Ueang Sai Luang), Malaysia, Laos, Vietnam, Philippines, Indonesia and New Guinea. Flowers are borne on leafless stems, each flower measuring about 8 cm, with mauve to purple petals, with a broad lip and a dark purple throat, exuding a characteristic raspberry fragrance. The flowering period is from February to April.
