Description:

Lifer, and had been on the top of my list for quite some time! Glossy black back with a bright red/orange belly with black checkers.

Habitat:

Caught in a bald cypress swamp surrounded by oak and pine forests at Caddo Lake NWR.

Very nice! Truly awesome find of a very reclusive species! My first catch ever was a foot long eastern mud snake and I've never come across another in the wild.
