Field Notes

Description:

Several nights in a row, this creature opened a big plastic box I keep bird seed in, and left it's paw prints on the inside of the lid. It could a opossum, but I'd like confirmation. Is it possibly a raccoon?

Habitat:

Urban back yard in a neighborhood without open canyons.

Notes:

This paw print suggests a re-wilding of my neighborhood, since I've never seen any evidence of raccoon here in the last 18 years.

Thanks CindyBinghamKeiser and EstebanJaramillo55. I think it really is a raccoon, which is amazing since I've never seen one or evidence of one in the 18 years I've lived in this urban environment.
Hi Ava, if you're certain this was not a human child (the rear foot looks quite human), than it would be a raccoon. Take a look at this reference: http://www.bear-tracker.com/coon.html
