Field Notes

Description:

The California Whiptail has a slim body with a long thin tail. Its sides and back can be grey, tan, or brown with dark spots. The throat is pale with large dark spots and the belly often has reddish patches on the side. The tail, with a black or blue tip, can be twice as long as the body.

Habitat:

Hot and dry areas with sparse foliage and large open areas
