Field Notes

Description:

I thought this was a type of wasp when I took the picture, it flew away very fast and I didn't get a good shot, but now I see that it is a beetle. It almost looks like a Tiger Beetle, but turned out to be in the Family Cleridae. It was 3 mm long. See https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/246791428/fullscreen.

Habitat:

Abandoned field, semi-urban area, outskirts of San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.

Yes Keith! Thank you! That is exactly what it looks like. Super.
With those antennae, I'd guess Cleridae. I couldn't find a good match, but maybe something like this Phyllobaenus sp. http://bugguide.net/node/view/270810
