Geometrid moth caterpillar

This caterpillar brings up a little mistery: it had what seemed a hurt in the back, with some fluid coming through. It also had pale colors and its skin looked dry. My question is: when a caterpillar molds, does it loose body fluids? Can anyone answer this?
