Kirtland's Warbler
Setophaga kirtlandii
43.9, -90.4
Field Notes
Description:
Kirtland's Warbler is a rare and endangered species that was thought to not breed in Wisconsin anymore but was found in a few areas that had stands of Jack Pine.
Habitat:
Kirtland's Warblers are found almost exclusively in stands of Jack Pine. Because Jack Pine are dependent on forest fires to regenerate, and there is a strong desire to limit forest fires, it's an uncommon habitat
Notes:
The location identified for these photographs is not particularly accurate as these birds are in danger of having their breeding success interrupted by the presence of large numbers of people.
