Field Notes

Description:

A medium, brown and white shorebird.
I have watched this pair of Killdeer care for their nest (located in the middle of our gravel drive) for almost a month. Yesterday the eggs began to hatch. Both male and female protect their young by displaying a "broken wing" act to lure you away from the nest/babies.

Habitat:

Rural areas (grasslands)

Notes:

Normally there would not be large rocks surrounding the nest, but I placed them there to protect them from vehicles driving up and down the driveway.
