Field Notes

Description:

Medium sized goose. Black head and neck with a white "collar" under head. Dark back with a light gray belly. White under tail. Looks somewhat similar to the Canada Goose but smaller and with no white cheek patch.

Habitat:

Gardiner County Park, New York. Great South Bay near the shore.

Notes:

Large groups of these birds were swimming around. I counted over 50 in various flocks.
