Based on the species provided I think it is a Carolina Marshclam (Polymesoda caroliniana). The Asian Clam has deeper and wider ridges. I also remember seeing more of these clams in the area, but empty with purple near the edges inside. It was found in an estuary at low tide. I'll look in to it a little more. :)
I would love to add it to your mission. I love the beach and am glad to see another mission for the Southeast of U.S. Thanks TeresaBurke. Jellis, that is a great link! I am so excited. I almost forgot about the clam. Thanks!
Would love for you to add this to my mission! It looks like a clam of some sort. Never seen one quite that big up here in SC. http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/332216008
Thanks Neil! :) Thanks Jellis! I will look it up. :)
I would lean for Asian Clam but here is a site that may help. http://www.fws.gov/panamacity/resources/Mussel%20harvest%20pamphlet%20March%202008.pdf
A lovely seaside spotting. I can smell the salt air from here. Nice one, Rosa.
