Description:

This large wasp LOVES mud! "Black body with variable amount of yellow markings. Pedicel (waist) about twice as long as the rest of the abdomen." It was "eating" the mud. The first image is of its mouth parts wide open. The second image is of its face deep in the mud.

Habitat:

mud in backyard garden. "Throughout NA (extreme so. Canada to Central America and West Indies); accidentally introduced into Europe several times, well established in several countries since the 1970s"
