Description:
About 18-20 mm long, robust, black with gray, silver, and golden hairs as shown. Very agile runner, flies well.
Habitat:
Found beneath a dead Bobwhite quail in a thicket of shrubs adjacent to a grove of cottonwood trees. Overall habitat is arid, degraded shortgrass prairie with cholla cacti being the tallest vegetation, at least at this time of year.
Notes:
This insect is a powerful predator of fly maggots and other insects that visit carrion.
