Field Notes

Description:

In our yard, we have several little trees that are the same species. On all of these trees, little leaves have been folded over by whatever these little caterpillars are. If you look closely, you can see little tiny transparent versions of the bigger one on the leaf. We pulled it apart & this is the result. We live in north texas, just by lake texoma. It appears that the caterpillar has transparent & black stripes, but it could just be white. There is a lot of these, & we would like to know if they're going to be a problem or if we should just let them be. I would also like to know what kind of tree this is & why they're only on it.

Habitat:

Leaves on little trees.

Notes:

They aren't very big, & they make rapid movements when bothered.
