Description:
A relatively large white cockatoo found in wooded habitats in Australia, New Guinea, and some of the islands of Indonesia. They can be locally very numerous, leading to them sometimes being considered pests. A highly intelligent bird, they are well known in aviculture, although they can be demanding pets.
Habitat:
This bird & it's siblings often stop by to eat the large seeds of the Yellow oleander (Captain-cook tree, be-still tree, still tree, lucky nut, foreigner's tree, Mexican oleander), which is toxic to humans, dogs etc.
Notes:
The local Magpie family are not at all happy when the large birds come for a feed as they (the Magpies), believe it is their territory. I often know when the S-C Cockys are visiting by the sound of the Magpies trying to drive them away. The SC Cockies don't care in the least :)
