There used to be a stream behind the tree he's in, but the city redirected it, I haven't found the time to hike and see how far up they damed it, but I doubt it's very far away.
I don't think populations east of the Rockies are doing as badly, so the populations in Oklahoma probably won't be listed. However, this species has declined in numbers in the east too. Did you see this one in riparian habitat?
The western subspecies is likely to be listed as endangered by the USFWS. They are probably extinct in Washington.
