Field Notes

Description:

Soldier Fly of about 8 mm in length. The thorax is metallic green and the first two segments of the abdomen are slightly reduced in diameter and an opaque white in color, to reinforce a wasp-like appearance. Family Stratiomyidae.

Habitat:

Came to an ultraviolet light in the garden, San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.
