Field Notes

Description:

A large Silk Moth. Close to a 5 inch wingspan.

Habitat:

Found in shrubby areas of the prairies and open jack pine forests in the boreal region.

Notes:

This is only the second time that I have recorded Glover's Silkmoth and it's always a pleasure. It should noted that there is still some debate as to whether this is a distinct species or a subspecies of Hyalophora Columbia (Columbia Silkmoth). However, recent study gives support to it being a full species.
