Field Notes

Description:

The back is gray with brown markings, and black stripes on each side. The males have two blue patches on the belly.

Habitat:

Found in an oak forest.

Notes:

The Fence Lizard in Texas was formerly considered to be S. undulatus, but recent genetic studies have elevated subspecies of S. undulatus to full species, with only two being in Texas, S. cowlesi in west Texas and S. consobrinus across the majority of the state.
