Field Notes

Description:

The body is a gray-silvery color. The most distinctive feature of the spadefoot is the vertical pupil. The Hurter's spadefoot has a sickle-shaped spade on the bottom of the back foot, and has a boss(hump) between the eyes.

Habitat:

Oak forest, spadefoots generally only come out after a rain, and it had rained the night before.

Notes:

He was a lifer for me :) I found him in one of my pit fall traps I am using for my Master's research, he had burrowed into the dirt at the bottom of the bucket which is why he has it caked on him.

Yesterday lol along with my birthday yearling yellow rat snake like 2ft from my driveway

Well I've been in the field everyday the past few weeks, but spending the next week at home relaxing. Let me know when you get the pics up!

Ive been slacking lately on having time to get out. All I have found lately are Yellow Rats most recent being yesterdays rescue I had to climb up a tree, layout on the branch, then untangle him (5 to 5 1/2ft snake) trying not to fall out of the tree. Then before release take some quick photos and get nailed in the nose for everyone's enjoyment lol. But on the bright side got my favorite pics of a yellow rat snake yet :)

I've only ever seen a dead one in an ant pile, was pretty messed up :/ At least you know they are in your area, need to go cruise that road every night til you find one! At some point I will get the Glossy Crayfish pics up, they were towards the end of all my stuff to upload so may not be til tomorrow or Monday.

LOL. Don't talk to me about mud snakes I've seen 4 dors this week on the same road I cried myself to sleep lol. I've been trying to find a alive one since I haven't seen one in forever and want pics. Also I haven't seen a Glossy but have caught Striped Crayfish Snakes I love the big eyes and short face.

And you need to find me a Scarlet Snake since you apparently are so good at it. And I still need a freaking mud snake! I dream about finding them, and I found a Glossy Crayfish Snake the other day while cruising and of course my mind automatically turned it into a Mud Snake until I closer and realized is was brown on top instead of black. Only my second Glossy Crayfish snake so it was still exciting, but not near as exciting as a Mud Snake would have been!

More people to herp with the more you find :) Yeah I still need a ton of salamanders to because Central Florida stinks for salamanders,I just know where there are slimys.

Invite me! There are so many east coast things I need to come find. tons actually. Pretty much every salamander that exists, and of course an Eastern Diamondback

Sadly I haven't but I do know the area from talking to ppl that have been up there and seen them, One Day :)

Haha I don't know! Have you actually found one or just want to? I've never even been to areas with them yet, so haven't gotten a chance to try to find them yet

HOW COULD I FORGET PINE BARRENS!!! I've been obsessed with them since I saw them in a field guide when I was young lol.

I do love tree frogs most, but considering I have only seen green and gray I can't really pick favorites yet. I want to see squirrel, bird-voiced, barking, and I think pine barrens would have to be my favorite if I can ever find it!

Yeah they are up there for my favorite frogs & toads. Probably right behind Barking Tree Frogs.
