Field Notes

Description:

Grey moth with a brown and white head and irregular white bands on the outer edges of the front wings. The head and thorax have little bristles that stick straight up (last picture). Maybe they are some kind of sensory setae.
1.5 cm in length. Family Notodontidae.

Habitat:

Came to an ultraviolet light in the garden, San Cristobal de Las Casas, 2,200 meters.

Thank you Jacob, looks like this hasn't been registered from Mexico yet.
Wonderful find! Certainly Symmerista; S. canicosta and S. albifrons look the closest, but they can be difficult to distinguish.
