Field Notes

Description:

Came to a bend in the road and saw a handful of pheasants, a little further and they had multiplied enormously; reached a point where there were gateways both sides and all the fields were absolutely teeming with pheasants, hundreds if not thousands of them. Well, they do breed like rabbits so perhaps that is why the hunting season has little effect on their numbers the following year. A lot of estate owners actually breed them for hunting as, like chickens, they are a source of human food. If they were left uncontrolled perhaps they would ravage the farmers crop as their diet is largely cereal crop seeds.

Habitat:

Harvested crop fields and meadows as well as just about everywhere at this time of year.
