Found it in the road. Carefully moved it a few feet forward, remembering how essential it is to keep it facing in its original direction.

Yes that is an eastern box turtle. The EBT is a species known for exhibiting a range of region specific color morphologies. It is also common for a turtle's shell to be stained a certain color depending on its habitat (e.x. Area rich in Georgia Clay deposits = reddish brown shell)
