smaller, leaf rosette is around 10 cm across and the flowers are no larger than 3-4 cm across. I have just posted here a picture of G. corniculatum from s Israel for u to see.
Arabian Horned Poppy, Glaucium arabicum G. corniculatum is a smaller annual
Thanks for the explanation about the name! :) The (Gebelaya) Bedouin are taking the little black seeds and ground them up, that I understood for sure. He didn't mention doing anything with the leaves. I forgot the name he had for it, will ask again!
It seems that G. leiocarpum is a synonym of G. corniculatum var. leiocarpum: http://www.theplantlist.org/tpl1.1/record/kew-2826381 No record of "G. leiocarpum" in Sinai in any of the scholarly research I have. I have an article that lists "G. arabicum" as being used to treat eye infections caused by dust and dirt. Leaves are put in cold water in the evening and applied as drops in the morning. So I wonder if they use all 3 Glacium species in Sinai the same way? (G. hybrida is also found here.) Did he give you a local name for this plant? I have "na'amaan" for G. arabicum.
This poppy, as explained to me by a Bedouin (Gebeleya) gardener, is used as medicine for the eyes, i.e. the ground-up seeds of it. I thought (after "googling"..) the name is Glaucium leiocarpum????
