Field Notes

Description:

Like a creature from the swamp this strange mushroom is only found in the darkest wettest muds of a very tall eucalyptus rain forest. Although it looks dirty it isn't. Both the cap and stipe are covered with large and very silken scales. About 130mm tall. Cap not quite opened yet. Clipping open one side revealed a maze of angular pore surface.

Habitat:

In very tall eucalyptus rain forest in a national park.

Notes:

If there are fungi 'lifers' this is one.
ID from Fuhrer 2005 page 193. Species not described. Boletes.
