Field Notes

Description:

The wasp reaches a body length of 13-19 millimeters. It differs from the other sand wasps well by their red-colored front and middle pairs of legs. Fly from June to September. They live in a hole in the ground, hunt caterpillars, mainly Geometridae, and feed their brood.

Habitat:

school garden, sandy area

yes, I read about it, interesting.. I think I found ID: Ammophila heydeni, with your help :) thanks again!

Yes, the Ammophila I have observed in California also excavate burrows. I have seen them carrying caterpillars into the burrows on which they probably lay their eggs.

Thank you, Jeff! I searched a little, it is right genus, so will find the ID, this one lives in hole in the ground..

It looks like an Ammophila species, but I don't know if that Genus occurs at your location.

I don't think so, nema leglicu na kraju zatka, neka wasp jest, a ne mogu naći koja živi u zemlji...
