Field Notes

Description:

This female Golden Silk Orb-weaver isn't the largest specimen I've seen, but she's none-the-less beautiful, and she's only just shed her skin within the last hour. This process of skin-shedding is called 'ecdysis'. This is the largest spider species found in the Brisbane area.

Habitat:

Common in bushland areas and gardens. This female was spotted in my backyard, suspended between the trees and house.

Notes:

Why is it when ever you want to take a photo of a web spider, the wind blows? Every single time, without fail !!
