Field Notes

Description:

About 14" long. Flat-ish head. Long dorsal fin running almost to the tail.

Habitat:

My brother in law found it in the flooded rice field.

Notes:

At first my bro-in-law said "lungfish", and I took his word for it (not having seen either a lungfish or a snakehead before...). But now I see the pectoral fins on a lungfish are typically long and slender. This does not have that.

The local name for this is "mudfish" . Good eating, I've heard.

I think you are right, and my brother-in-law was mistaken by calling it "lungfish". I shall change it to Channa. Thankyou!
