Description:
Around 6mm in size, with a shield-like wing covers, semi-transparent at edges, 3 black lines, yellow & green, the rounded shield covers legs and head, yellow antennae black at the end and yellow legs with four segmented tarsi.
Habitat:
Spotted at Nusa Dharma Island, Nusa Dua - Bali, Indonesia / Coastal - grassy area.
Notes:
Cassidinae is a subfamily of leaf beetles with bright metallic colors and a rounded shield that helps them to survive to ants and other predators on leafs, they get their name because of the tortoise-like shell which they can pull down very strongly to the surface of a leaf. Some species can change color very rapidly when disturbed by adding or removing liquid from immediately under their shell. They are more active in the rainy season, with diapause in winter and summer. Both adults and larvae feed on Convolvulaceae, mainly on Ipomoea species.
