I have no idea what type of fern this is, or even how to determine what species it is. I love the curling effect though.

Bill, I'm not much ahead of you with plants, but I've eaten fiddleheads before, so I knew about them:-)
Thanks Tom! I did not know that, as I'm really lousy at plant ID and most information related to it. You can tell by my photo collection that I am starting to work on that. I figured spring is the perfect time to start.
Nice spotting! Not sure what species of fern this is, but this curled up stage is called a fiddlehead. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fiddlehead_fern
