Field Notes

Description:

Black skin with pink skin on the belly. They didn't really look like rabbits, but they still were cute!

Notes:

My friend showed me a patch of dead grass. She lifted it, and at first I thought there were either odd pipes or just a prank. They were even moving! My friend explained that they were baby rabbits, and I finally saw the resemblance.

What a great find and set of photos. We all think that they're absolutely adorable!
What a special find! They should have fur in a couple of days. I hope you returned the nest to it's original condition and left it alone so mom rabbit could come back later to feed her babies. Cottontail mothers will not stay by the nest so they avoid attracting predators to it. They feed their babies twice a day (once in the morning and once in the evening) and only for a few minutes. Mom will return to the nest as long as she believes the area is safe.
