Naturally occurs in moist conditions in flats below watercourses and in boggy areas. Its distribution ranges from tropical Queensland to the south of New South Wales mainly along the coast. This specimen was spotted by the lake at the Brisbane Botanical Gardens, Mt. Coot-Tha.

This species of grass has the potential to become invasive in some areas. According to the Australian government, it is no longer considered an Australian species. Don't ask me why. http://www.anbg.gov.au/gnp/interns-2003/pennisetum-alopecuroides.html
