Field Notes
Description:
Medium sized bird, pale grey with black, white, and rust colored markings. These birds have a very long tail and a short beak. Tails are forked. Males have longer tails than females.
Habitat:
These birds inhabit open areas with scattered trees such as ranches, farms, and grasslands. They often are found on utility lines. These birds are found in the southern area of the United States in the Great Plains and in Texas.
Notes:
We see these flycatchers daily hanging out on the pole wires beside our school. They are so cool to observe especially when they fly. We see them dipping down to catch insects and then swooping up back to the wires to eat their food.
