Field Notes

Description:

The common mynah has a black head with a chocolate coloured body. But this one was bald.

Habitat:

Resident bird in a government housing estate which had many trees and open grounds.

Notes:

This bird was NOT ILL or suffering from pesticide poisoning, as I first thought. It was healthy and happy and I saw it for at least 3-4 years. It found a mate and build a nest too...I could not study the chicks though, if any.
Is this a common condition in birds? I saw a Common mynah in the process of becoming bald in Ghaziabad; but this one was an adult and bald when I first spotted it.
