Field Notes

Description:

Medium-sized tree. Fruits in clusters. The skin is dry and wrinkled. When peeled the white lychee-like flesh is revealed. Big black marble-like seed inside gives it the name Dragon-eye!

Habitat:

Roadside.

Notes:

This one was planted by the roadside by me when the seed of the only Longan I had ever tasted germinated. It is fruiting now and the local urchins are always all over this tree. It is called Aansh-phol in Bengali/Bangla. Phol or phaal means fruit.
