Field Notes

Description:

Their cocoons are attached to the leaves and so fall to the ground with approach of cold weather. To 4.5 inches (11 cm). It occurs east of the Rocky Mountains, from southern Canada southward.

Habitat:

The larvae prefer the foliage of walnut, beech, willow, oak and hickory.

Notes:

The most beautiful moth of our region.
