Field Notes

Description:

Green-ish and brown shell and yellow-striped head and neck. 4 black spikes on top of shell and a black intricate design on belly.

Habitat:

Aquatic but loves to sun-bathe.

Notes:

We saved this little guy May 2012. He had a soft shell and no one thought he'd live very long. He has grown significantly and his shell has become much stronger. We are unsure if we identified him correctly. It seems acurate but few of the pictures of Graptemys barbouri have any design on their belly. Help is always appreciated.

Species ID Suggestions

Comments (1)

I don't think this is a Barbour's, like you said, because of the pattern on the plastron (belly). Is the GPS pinning location accurate there in Eastern Georgia? It is a wild specimen? Pictures of the markings on the head would also help.
