Field Notes

Description:

I haven't a clue what this may be. I found it on the side of a an old tree stump. Could be some egg pack of something, could be a fungus. It's yellow, really bumpy, and a little larger across than a quarter. It's also in my yard near where the kids play.

Ok, I'm fairly certain it's a slime mold of some sort. Day 1 it was the bumpy yellow patch. Day 2 it looks like dark brown piece of branch, only really soft and there's what looks like snail slime around the base. There's also a second patch that is the same brown, but grew out that looks like hair.

Thanks, I'll see about getting more photos over the next few days.
Looks like Slime Mold. These change shape and colour over a short period (hours - days). So,it would be good if you can document it's current status. It might help with an ID. Also, we have some experts on Slime Mold on PN who might be interested. Great spotting !
