Thanks for the tip about the field guide. Could be this spotting will have to stay unidentified. I was new to photographing fungi and didn't get the right shots. But I can do better next time! Appreciate your help ,,,

Have a look at Ganoderma lucidum - a proper ID might need the underneath (pore surface) and substrate (tree?) documented though. http://fieldguides.eol.org/fguides/fieldguide-view.php?guidekey=246&eol_id=133532&sci_flag=1#
